![]() It renders at almost the same speed as my PC ( i7-11700k, 8-core 3.6GHz, with a Radeon VII GPU, and 64GB ram). I bought the M1 Max with 64GB ram, 1TB SSD (I think about $4300 after tax). Don’t really have room for the 3rd display, so I only open it up to check final color, but most of the time it’s closed.īut now onto render times, ‘cause that’s what we really care about. I’ve now been testing it for 1 full week and am sadly … well, I’m not sure disappointed is the right word - there’s a ton that’s amazing with the machine, but hear me out.įirst, the display is insanely beautiful and great for color presice design/video work - HOWEVER, it’s a bit funny because I have been using the MBP in clamshell mode most of the time, because I’m at my desktop workstation and want to use my UltraWide display as my primary, and my Cintiq Pro as my secondary that I draw on. Now I was in love, because I could work in macOS, but with the speed of my custom PC.Īnd THEN came the M1 Max! I bought one immediately and it delivered a week ago. Then last year added a second drive and got a reliable Hackintosh system running. Hated Windows 10, but render times and performance were worth it. So a couple years back I built a PC and worked in Windows. I’ve been a hardcore Mac fan for 20 years and have really resisted switching to Windows, but I do a lot of AE compositing and animation, and over the past 5 years, it’s been harder and harder to justify staying with Apple. Not to burst the M1 Max bubble, but I’ve had a different experience. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. If you'd like to view their content together, click here.
